The remains of wife of former civilian governor of old Anambra State, Caroline Chinweolu Onoh,were yesterday, at about 2.56pm,laid to rest in Enugu-Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State amidst tears from sympathizers who thronged the ancestral home to bid,’ the matriarch farewell.
At a requiem high mass at Holy Ghost Cathedral presided over by Catholic Bishop of Enugu Dioceses, Callistus Onaga, which started at about 10.50am,Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the state, described the late matriarch, as a virtuous woman of exemplary character who inspired many with her selflessness, humility, simplicity and sincerity.
Ugwuanyi spoke during the Requiem Mass for the late Mrs. Onoh which was attended by an array of dignitaries comprising the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano and his wife; the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu; the Governor of Ebonyi State who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Bernard Ugwu; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Barr. Geoffrey Onyeama;and wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi.
Others dignitaries included former governors of Anambra and Ebonyi States, Mr. Peter Obi and Chief Martin Elechi respectively, and Archbishop of Enugu Province (Anglican Communion), Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma among others.
