Candidiasis is a fungal Infection that can affect areas such as the Skin,Throat,Mouth,blood.A yeast infection results from an overgrowth of yeast(a type of fungus)anywhere in the body.There are more than 20 species of Candida,the most common being Candida albicans, they can become so numerous they cause infections,particularly in warm and most areas. E.g are vaginal yeast infections,thrush(infections of tissues of the oral cavity) skin including diaper rash,beneath large breasts and nailbed infections.
Even common mouth and vaginal yeast infection can cause critical illness and can be more resistant to normal treatment.Yeast infections that return may be a sign of more serious diseases such as diabetes,leukemia or AIDs.
In women:Signs and symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection are
*whitish gray discharge and thick
*itching and irritation of the vaginal
*pain with sexual intercourse or burning with urination.
In Men:Men may develop symptoms of a genital yeast infection after intercourse with a woman who has a vaginal yeast infection.
However yeast infection is not considered to be a sexually transmitted diseases(STD) because women can have the yeast normally in the body and do not acquire it from an outside source.
There are certain risk factors that predispose a woman to a vaginal yeast infection and includes:
*Use of antibiotics and or corticosteroids *pregnancy
*uncontrolled diabetes
*Being immunocompromised
*Any scenarios that can cause changes in normal vaginal flora including douching.
Prevention
*Diet that supports the immune system and is not high in sample carbohydrates contributes to a healthy balance of the Oval and intestinal flora.
*Wearing cotton underwear may help to reduce the risk of developing skin and vaginal yeast infections there is limited evidence that oral or intravaginal probiotics help to prevent future infection.
This includes either as pills or as yogurt
*Treatment
Candidiasis is commonly treated with antimycotics,these antifungal drugs include topical clotrimazole,topical ketoconazole.Mouth and throat candidiasis are treated with antifungal medications.
