From time immemorial, having kids abroad has been a priority for many Nigerians but the rate has tripled over time. Right now, almost every pregnant lady nurses the dream of birthing her child in United States of America because of the benefits accrued to it.A baby born on the U.S. soil is considered to be a U.S. citizen hence hospitals will automatically do all the paper work on your behalf concerning the birth certificate and the Social Security number but it is your responsibility to apply for U.S. passport, which can be easily done at a local post office. The child gains all benefit of US citizenship, without limitation, including the ability to sponsor his or her parents for immigration once he or she is an adult.

Direct advantages to the parent.Parents can also use US Citizens' immigration line when traveling with the child and a child can sponsor the parents' permanent residence in the future.US citizenship also offers financial aid for the kid's college education in the US with no tax liability to the parents.Furthermore, even when the kid is in college, he'll find it easier to get internships, jobs. However, birthing in the United States does not come cheap. You have to pay a gynecologist, anesthesiologist, genetic consultant(s), lab(s), ultra sound technician(s), a pediatrician and the hospital facilities.Cost of treatment I.e hospital, doctor's fees, epidural, NICU etc with cost of accommodation and Flight to your final destination . To have your baby delivered in US, you are advised to follow the right procedure because honesty is a key factor in obtaining a US visa.Applicants seeking non-immigrant visas for medical treatment which is where childbirth falls into, In addition to the regular documentation required for a non-immigrant visa, applicants will be required to provide documents pertaining to the proposed medical treatment.Medical care in the United States is expensive compared to Nigeria. An applicant seeking medical care in the United States will need to present certain information during the interview to show that he or she will not be treated at the expense of a governmental entity in the U.S. At a minimum, the
applicant should present.A letter from a physician in Nigeria explaining why sufficient treatment is unavailable in Nigeria. A letter from a US medical specialist confirming an appointment and describing the duration and total projected cost of treatment. The letter must include the estimated cost of the proposed treatment and hospitalization. Evidence of ability to cover all treatment, lodging, food, and miscellaneous living expenses.
If you already have a B visa which is a visiting visa, you are advised to write a Notification/Change of Intent email to the embassy(If you declared your intent to give birth in USA during your  visa interview then you don't need to send a letter to the embassy) but if you have withheld this info during the visa interview then letter of intent is not a shortcut. This correspondence and the reply is carried by the traveler to the point of entry (POE). If you do not have a visa, apply for a B1/B2 Medical visa. Go with evidence to show that you have a hospital, doctor and funds to cover accommodation, medical treatment and any other incidences.  You may go with the complete cash for your stay. This is preferable but not a must to prove you are capable of paying your bills and provide a smoother poe experience. At the POE, you are expected to go with your burden of proof and be well prepared to answer questions to avoid deportation. It is not a crime to birth in the US. It is a crime however if you conceal this fact from your visa officer (VO) or Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This act is considered misrepresentation and can result in deportation and cancellation of visa and sometimes a ban.
After birthing, you are required to  pay all your bills and all your baby/ies' bills. Do not accept medicaid. Although your Child acquires automatic citizenship, it is presumed you were not allowed on the shores of America to add to their financial/Tax burdens.  After birthing , you follow the steps for getting a US passport, Nigerian passport/Visa /Travel documents for your child.
If your child's travel document is his international passport, you require a dual way ticket. After birthing your child, you need the following to get his documents, 2 passport photos of baby, Copy of parent's Nig. passports (data page), Birth certificate (copy),Itinerary and Letter of consent  all  addressed to The Consular Officer, Embassy of Nigeria,Washington DC 20008.This could take a couple of weeks to get done
